5 tips to break through worrying

I keep on worrying, I just can’t figure it out. I go round and round in my head and keep coming back to the same worrisome thoughts. Only the thoughts are every time just a little more disastrous than during the round worrying before.

Short and concise worrying, how do you do that?

It is unbelievable how strong worrying works. How it affects your thoughts, your mood and the whole content of your day. Because once you start worrying, it is often difficult to do this succinctly. In other words, useful and solution-oriented in fifteen minutes…

No, worrying works differently, more devious than you think . It starts with thinking about something, something small. something you don’t know how to deal with. That thought pops up every now and then, at a totally awkward moment.

For example, if you want to sleep, relax on the couch and watch TV, or during your work if you actually have to concentrate on something completely different. That thought manages to appear more and more often, until you can no longer ignore it. The worrying is a fact!

Who is in charge of my thoughts?

Worrying paralyzes me, almost literally. I can no longer function properly and keep spinning in my head. I forget that I still have a body, and am only a head. It’s like I’m lost in the fog.

It takes me a while to get it. That I’m paralyzed by the endless grinding in my head. I know I have to break through this, do something to “be in charge” again. The master of my own thoughts and moods that I create. But this sometimes takes a lot of effort, as if there is lead in my shoes.

But still I continue. Some times faster than others. Sometimes it takes half a day and sometimes a week. But there comes a time when you realize what you are doing. That moment gives you a choice. Do you continue to worry and get lost in the fog? Or do you choose to act despite the lead in your shoes?

There is no immediate solution for your thoughts. Otherwise you would have already found it. But worrying keeps you stuck in your head. And even though there is a lot of knowledge there, your wisdom often remains hidden. Hiding behind all that worrying and waiting for you to listen to your heart.

5 tips to break through worrying

But how do you walk out of the fog? How do you break through worrying when you have elevated it to art?

  1. The fact that at some point you realize that you are worrying is already an important step. You see what you do and you see that you worry. You now have a choice to act. Are you going to do something to break the worry or do you keep going? The decision is yours.
  2. to move! Not from couch to bed, but outside. On a bike, on a walk, running, or at least indoors, dancing to your favorite music. Literally moving helps to break through the paralyzing feeling of worrying. It is often not easy, but take the first step! Even if it is only 1 (direction remote control for setting up good music).
  3. Give yourself a pat on the back. You have just taken the first and most difficult step. Worrying has not yet been resolved, but a start has been made. Well done!
  4. Try to discover what takes you further out of worry. It’s best to find out before you get into this! So you can use it when you need it. For example, writing works well for me. Writing thoughts off me without it having to be a nice story. Just write, sentence after sentence, filling every line. Guess twice what I was doing for this writing… right, worry!
  5. Don’t be too hard on yourself . It’s a cliché but that makes it even more valuable. You already know this, but you probably pass it by quickly. You are often used to endless worrying, no matter how annoying. Take it step by step and if it doesn’t work, that’s okay too. Being aware of your worry always gives you the chance to do something about it.
