Diazepam or Valium is often prescribed for anxiety disorders, tension, and insomnia. The drug belongs to the group of benzodiazepines.

As with most benzos, long-term use leads to habituation and withdrawal symptoms when you stop taking Valium.

Are you about to use Diazepam or Valium? Then read this article carefully. This way you will find out what the pros and cons are and what side effects you can experience.

Purpose of this article: In this article, I will give you some general information about Diazepam or Valium. You will also find out how long this medicine works and what the side effects may be.

I explain where buying Valium online can be dangerous and I give you a good tip to overcome your fears without drugs.

Wat is Diazepam?

The brand name Valium probably sounds more familiar to you. This remedy was particularly well known in the 1970s and 1980s. Taking a ‘valium’ to calm down or sleep well was very popular at the time.

The reason for this was that it was then considered a harmless sedative and sleep aid. And somehow this was the case.

The drugs previously prescribed to treat anxiety and insomnia, barbiturates, were actually much more dangerous.

Today, however, it is well known that Diazepam is not harmless either. Still, Diazepam or Valium remains one of the most commonly prescribed drugs in the world.

And that is not such good news: after all, this medicine can cause a lot of negative and even dangerous side effects. But more on this later.

First let’s take a look at exactly how Diazepam works and what exactly it is used for.

How benzodiazepines affect your body and mind is a fairly scientific and complicated matter. Because I don’t want to bore you with this article, I’ll keep it short.

Benzodiazepines act on the central nervous system by replenishing certain substances in the brain.

You may have heard about GABA neurotransmitters. These ensure that you do not experience too much stress or anxiety in your daily life.

If these neurotransmitters don’t do their job properly, your body will go into ‘overdrive’ at a certain point and stress and anxiety will take over.

Benzodiazepines give these neurotransmitters a helping hand.

Diazepam is mainly used to calm your mind and body. This way you experience fewer symptoms of stress and anxiety. This Diazepam is also often prescribed as a sleep aid.

If you are planning to take Diazepam, it is important to know when exactly it starts working and how long its effects may last.

Molecular Structure of Diazepam

How long does Diazepam work?

Diazepam is a fast-acting agent and has a medium to long duration of action.

Half an hour to an hour after you have taken Diazepam you will already feel its effects. You feel calmer and more relaxed and you become a little drowsy.

It is therefore very important that you no longer do things that require a high concentration just after ingestion. For example, don’t drive a car anymore or it is better not to use traffic at all, not even by bike or on foot.

The calming effect of Diazepam lasts for about 8 to 12 hours.

Because Diazepam can have negative interactions with other medicines and substances, it is important that you know how long this drug remains in your body. This way you can avoid getting interaction side effects.

Diazepam has a half-life of approximately 48 hours. In concrete terms, this means that it takes 48 hours for half of a dose of Diazepam to be completely removed from your body.

Molecules of Metabolites Derived from the Diazepam

Diazepam is broken down into other substances through various body processes. The scientific name for these substances is ‘ metabolites’ . These can be detectable in the body for much longer than Diazepam itself.

It is interesting to know that if you use Diazepam, it will still be present in the blood for up to 48 hours after use. This can still be detected in urine even up to six weeks after use.

Even in hair follicles, the use of Diazepam is demonstrable and this up to 90 days after using this product.

Diazepam is a drug that is often misused. In the next section you will find out why and why users often look for other ways to buy this product.

Diazepam online kopen?

Diazepam can only be obtained with a doctor’s prescription. However, this is not so easy. A doctor will always check very carefully whether there are no alternatives to Valium and he has a good reason for that.

Man orders something online

Compared to other benzodiazepines, Diazepam is one of the most illegally traded drugs.

Because of the sedative effect of Diazepam, many people use it as a sedative, without any medical reason. After all, it gives you an immense feeling of peace that lasts for a relatively long time.

It is precisely because doctors often refuse to prescribe Valium that users sometimes look for Diazepam on the Internet. If you google it, you will notice that you can indeed obtain this remedy on various sites. A good idea? Not at all!

Traffic light with a red hand

It is best not to just buy diazepam. It is an addictive drug that can cause many withdrawal symptoms if you decide to stop.

In addition, many of these sites are not reliable at all. If you buy Diazepam at the pharmacy, you can be sure that this is a safe product. If you buy it online, you don’t really know what you’re buying.

Perhaps it is a completely different product or a different composition was used to develop this illegal product. Of course I don’t have to tell you that this can pose a major health risk.

Various illegal products

Another problem with these sites is that you usually have to pay in advance and you may never get the product delivered at all.

If you haven’t been feeling yourself lately and anxiety is dominating your life, you may want to consider taking Diazepam. However, there are also many disadvantages associated with this remedy.

To inform you as best as possible, I have listed the most important and the most dangerous. It is best to read these as carefully as possible before asking your doctor about Diazepam.

Side Effects and Experiences of Diazepam

The side effects of Diazepam vary from person to person. That is why I have made a selection of the side effects that most users experience.

Woman with her hands to her eyes due to side effects of Diazepam

Experiences with Diazepam that are quite annoying, but not that dangerous:

  • Gastrointestinal complaints
  • A dry mouth or just extra saliva
  • Changed appetite
  • Headache
  • Dry eyes

However, diazepam also has much more dangerous side effects:

drowsiness

Especially in the beginning you can feel quite sleepy when you take Diazepam. This is mainly because the agent has a medium to long duration of action. After a while your body gets used to this, but a general feeling of fatigue can also be permanent.

Temporary amnesia

Especially just after taking a tablet, you often can’t remember things. This side effect is called anterograde amnesia. This means that short-term memory is not affected, but long-term memory is.

This amnesia occurs because events are not transferred from short-term memory to long-term memory and thus are not recorded in general memory.

Muscle weakness and impaired coordination

Because Valium also relaxes muscles, you can suffer from reduced coordination. You are usually less fixed on your legs because of this and also performing accurate work will not work as well if you have just taken Diazepam.

Slower thinking and concentration problems

Research at the University of Uruguay has shown that a dose of 0.1 mg/kg has no negative effect on concentration. Concentration problems are already noticeable from the moment this dose is increased to 0.2 mg/kg.

At a dose of 0.3 mg/kg, the subjects still had concentration problems even after 190 minutes after ingestion.

Taking Diazepam regularly can affect your ability to concentrate to such an extent that you feel ‘not quite there’. This can of course lead to very dangerous situations, both in traffic, in your work environment and at home.

Habituation

As with most benzodiazepines, long-term use of Diazepam also leads to habituation. After a while, your body has become so used to your daily dose that it needs more and more of this drug to achieve the same effect.

Another danger of Valium lies in the fact that it is very easy to grab.

Suppose you have already taken your daily dose of Valium. Suddenly you are very nervous about something and you are convinced that it could lead to an anxiety attack . Then it is of course very easy to just take another ‘Valium’ to prevent this. If you do this regularly, the step towards a real addiction is quickly taken.

Withdrawal Symptoms

You should never stop diazepam just like that, but you should gradually reduce it under the supervision of a doctor. If you do not taper off this drug, you can suffer from very unpleasant  withdrawal symptoms.

Because Diazepam still remains in your blood up to 48 hours after taking it, you will only notice the first withdrawal symptoms after 3 to 4 days. Rebound anxiety is especially common. This means that you are going to have the fears that were suppressed by Diazepam again. Often you experience this even to a worse extent.

Physical withdrawal symptoms such as headache, nausea, stomach and intestinal cramps, increased blood pressure, palpitations or trembling limbs are also common.

Some users often experience mood swings, depression, and even panic attacks when stopping Diazepam .

After this first withdrawal phase, a second withdrawal phase usually follows. This can take up to 2 weeks.

During this time, you may feel very light-headed, experience headaches and nausea, and even develop a fever. Your desire for Diazepam increases again making it very dangerous to reach for the drug again.

As you can read, Diazepam can have quite annoying and even dangerous side effects. You cannot just stop taking this medicine. If you do try this, you can get very intense withdrawal symptoms.
