The Seven Hermetic Principles, on which the whole Hermetic philosophy is based, are:
- The Principle of the Spiritual (thought powers)
- The Principle of Conformity
- The Principle of Vibration
- The Principle of Polarity
- The Principle of Rhythm
- The Principle of Cause and Effect
- The Principle of Gender
These Seven Principles will be discussed and explained as we continue with these lessons. A brief explanation of each, however, should be provided.
1 The Principle of the Spiritual’
“Everything is Energy; The Universe is Spiritual” –
This Principle embodies the truth that “everything is Spirit.”
It declares that THE All (that is the physical reality underlying all outer manifestations and manifesting itself in what we know in terms of ‘the material world’, ‘real Life’, ‘Matter’, ‘Energy’ – and, in short: All that is visible to our material senses) IS SPIRIT – which is in itself unknowable and indefinable, but which can be regarded and thought of as a Universal, Infinite and Vibrant Spirit.
It declares that everything in the real, observable World or Universe is simply a Thought-creation of The All, and is subject to the Laws of Creation.
The Universe, both in its Whole and in its Parts, has its right to exist in the Mind of the All – in whose Thought we live, move and are in our Being.
This Principle, grounded in the Spiritual Nature of the Universe, gives a simple explanation of all kinds of Physical and Spiritual phenomena which occupy a great deal of public attention because, without such explanation, they are incomprehensible and require scientific approach. to challenge.
Understanding these grand Hermetic Principles of the Spiritual makes it possible to more easily grasp the laws of the Spiritual Universe individually and apply them for your well-being and progress.
Study of the Hermetic Laws makes it possible to intelligently apply these great spiritual laws instead of using them in a haphazard way.
With the Master Key in your possession, students will be able to open the many doors of the physical and spiritual Temple of Knowledge – giving it the same freedom and intelligence. This Principle explains the true nature of ‘Energy – Force – Matter’ and how and why all things are subordinate to the Mastery of Spirit.
One of the old Hermetic Masters wrote a long time ago:
“The one who embraces the truth of the Spiritual Nature of the Universe has advanced on The Path of Mastery.”
And these words are as true today as they were when they were first written down. Without this Master Key – Mastery is impossible and the disciples knock in vain on the many doors of the Temple.
2 The Principle of Concordance
“As above, so below; as below, as above”
This Principle embodies the truth that there is always correspondence between the laws and phenomena on the different planes of Being and Life.
The old Hermetic Law goes in these words: “As above, so below; as below, so above” and the understanding of this Principle gives meaning to the dissolution of many obscure contradictions and the hidden secrets of Nature.
There are areas beyond our knowledge; but where we can apply the Principles of Correspondence, we are able to understand more of what would otherwise remain unknowable to us.
This Principle is a Universal application and manifestation for the various realms of the material, spiritual and spiritual Universe – it is a Universal Law.
The ancient Hermetists understood this Principle as one of the most important spiritual instruments through which anyone was able to see beyond the obstacles that hindered the view of the Unknown.
The use even tore the Veil of Isis, allowing glimpses of the Goddess’s face.
Just as the knowledge of the Principles of Geometry allows humans to measure the distance to the Sun and its motions while sitting in an Observatory themselves, so the Principle of Correspondence provides knowledge that allows humans to use the intelligent knowledge of to learn the Consciousness and the unconscious. It allows people to study the Monad (consciousness centers/unit) and understand the Archangel.
3 The Principle of Vibration
“Nothing rests, everything moves, everything vibrates.”
This Principle embodies the truth that ‘everything is in motion’ – ‘everything vibrates’ – and ‘nothing is at rest’ (nothing stands still).
These are facts which confirm Modern Science and which reaffirm every new scientific discovery.
Even though this Hermetic Principle was proclaimed thousands of years ago by the Masters of Ancient Egypt.
This Principle explains that the differences between various manifestations of Matter, Energy, Thought, and even Spirit result largely from varying degrees of vibration.
From the All that is pure Spirit to the rawest material Form – everything is in vibration.
The higher the vibration, the higher the vibration number.
The vibration of Thoughts is of such an infinite tempo of power and speed, it seems practically at rest – just as a fast-moving wheel seems motionless.
And at the other end there are the raw material forms whose vibrations are very low and also appear to be at rest.
Between these poles are millions and millions of varied degrees of vibration, from corpuscle and electron, atom and molecule to worlds and universes,
everything is in vibrating motion.
This also applies to the levels of energy and power (which only vary in degree of vibration) and also to the mental levels (the state of which depends on vibration), and even to the Spiritual Levels.
An understanding of this Principle, with the appropriate formulas, enables students to control their own thoughts.
The masters also apply this Principle in overcoming Natural Phenomena in various ways.
“The one who understands the Principle of vibration holds the scepter of power” says one of the ancient writers.
4. The Principle of Polarity
“Everything is twofold, everything has a pole, everything has its own pair of opposites; Equal and unequal are the same; Contradictions are indeed in varying degrees, but by nature identical. Extremes measure; all truths are only half-truths, all paradoxes may be reconciled.”
This principle embodies the truth that “everything is dual,” “everything has 2 poles, and everything has its own pair of opposites.”
They are all old Hermetic laws.
It explains ancient paradoxes, which have baffled so many, and which have been established as follows:
“These and anti-thesis are identical by nature, but differ in
The opposing pairs can be reconciled, allowing extremes to meet; everything is and is not at the same time.
All truths are only half-truths; every truth is half false; there are two sides to everything. etc. etc……
It explains that in everything there are two poles, or opposite aspects; and that ‘opposites’ are really just the two extremes of the same thing with many different levels in between.
To illustrate: Heat and cold.
Though opposite, in reality they are the same.
The difference consists only of degrees of the same.
Look at your thermometer and see if you can find out where “warm” ends and “cold” begins.
There is no such thing as absolutely ‘warm’ or absolutely ‘cold’.
The two terms ‘warm’ and ‘cold’ simply indicate different degrees of the same thing – and the same shows up as ‘warm’ and ‘cold’ and is only form; fluctuating and a speed of vibration.
So ‘warm’ and ‘cold’ are simply 2 poles or something like what we call ‘warm’ and the associated phenomena after that are manifestations of the principle of polarity.
The same principle becomes visible in the state of ‘light and darkness’;
which are also the same, the differences exist in different levels between the two poles of this phenomenon.
Where does ‘darkness’ end and ‘light’ begin?
What is the difference between ‘big’ and ‘small’?
Between ‘hard’ and ‘soft’? Between ‘black’ and ‘white’? Between ‘sharp’ and ‘blunt?
Between ‘noise’ and ‘peace’? Between ‘high’ and ‘low’? Between ‘positive’ and ‘negative’?
The principle of polarity explains these paradoxes and no other principle can replace it. The same principle applies at the level of Thoughts.
Let us take a radical and extreme example, eg of ‘love and hate’.
Two moods that are apparently completely different.
There are always differences in degrees of hate or degrees of love and a center, as we use it in terms of ‘like’ or ‘dislike’ – those nuances are different in everyone over time.
Knowing whether we ‘like’ or ‘dislike’ or ‘neither’ is a disadvantage.
Everything is simply nuances of the same.
You can see this, if you think about this for a moment.
And, more than this (thought is very important with the Hermetists!) it is possible to change the vibrations of hatred into the vibrations of love.
It’s your choice, just like everyone else’s.
Many of you reading these lines have had personal experiences with the involuntary speed transitions of love or hate and vice versa, both in your own situation and in that of others.
You will therefore realize the possibility through the use of the willpower – as intended in the Hermetic formulas.
‘Good and Evil’ are two poles of the same thing and the Hermetist understands the art of the transformation from Evil to Good – as a way of applying the principles of polarity.
In short: the art of polarization is a phase of the Thought Alchemy, known and practiced by the ancient and the modern Hermetic Masters.
Understanding this principle allows you to change any polarity,
provided you take the time and allow the study necessary to master this art.
5 The Principle of Rhythm
“Everything flows in and out, everything has its tide; Everything must rise and fall.
The swing of the pendulum is manifest in everything: the distance the pendulum makes to the right is the same as the distance to the left.
In other words, “Rhythm compensates for things.”
This principle embodies the truth that in everything there is a measurable movement as to and fro; currents and floods; a swing back and a swing forward; a pendulum-like movement; a tidal movement, such as ebb and flow – a high and a low tide.
At the two poles as they exist in accordance with the principles of Polarity described above, there is always an action and a reaction; a forward movement and a retraction movement; a rise and a fall.
This is throughout the history of the Universe, the Sun, Worlds, People, Animals, Thoughts, Energy and Matter.
This law shows the Creation and Destruction of Worlds.
In the rise and fall of Nations, in the life of all things and finally in the Minds of Men.(and it is the latter why the Hermetists feel that understanding this principle is most important!).
The Hermetists have understood this principle, they find the Universal Application here and have thereby discovered certain meanings, formulas and methods, to overcome these effects and to use them in themselves.
They apply the Neutrality Thought!
They cannot override this principle or cause this effect to cease—they have learned how to circumvent these effects within themselves, depending on a certain level of Mastery of the Principle.
They have learned how to use it, rather than being used by it.
The art of the Hermetist consists of these and similar methods.
The Master polarizes himself at this point where he longs for rest and then neutralizes the rhythmic movement of the pendulum which tends to take him to the other pole.
All people who have attained some self-control can do so at the level where they are, more or less unconsciously. The Master can do it consciously, using his willpower, and thus achieves a level of balance in Thoughtpower that is almost impossible to believe for the masses who are swinging like a pendulum.
This principle and the principle of Polarity are closely related to the study of the Hermetist.
It is the method of lifting and neutralizing, and the Hermetist USES this formula as an important part of the Hermetic Thought Alchemy.
6 The Principle of Cause and Effect.
“Every cause has an effect and every effect has a cause. Everything happens according to this law; Coincidence is just a term that indicates that the law is misunderstood; there are many levels of Cause – but nothing escapes this law.”
This principle embodies the fact that there is a cause for every effect—and an effect for every cause.
It explains that “Everything happens according to this law”, that nothing happens by chance – that there is no such thing as coincidence. There are different levels of cause and effect, the higher predominant and lower planes, but nothing can escape this law.
The Hermetist understands the art and methods of rising above the mundane level of cause and effect.
By rising to a higher level at a certain level and through Thoughts, he can add to the cause instead of the effect.
Most people hobble on, obeying their environment and seeing the wants and desires of others as more important than their own, seeing it as hereditary or taking advice and all other outer causes that move them as if they were pawns on the Chessboard of Life .
But the Masters rise above, they control their moods, know their character, qualities and powers as well as the environment that surrounds them.
They play chess instead of being a pawn.
They help to play the game of life instead of being played by the willpower of others around them.
They USE the principle instead of being tools.
The Masters obey the causes from the higher levels, but decide on their own strength.
7 The principle of gender.
“Gender is in everything; everything has its masculine and feminine principles.
Gender asserts itself in all dimensions.”
This principle embodies the truth that Gender shows itself in everything.
The masculine and feminine principles are present in everything.
This is not true and not only on the physical level, also in Thought and even on the spiritual level.
At the bodily level as SEX, at the higher level it takes higher forms.
The principle is always the same.
No creation is possible, whether physical, mental, mental or spiritual, without this principle.
Understanding this law will shed light on many topics that confuse people’s minds.
The principle of Gender even works in the direction of development and renewal and with Creation Power.
Everything and every person possesses these two elements or principles.
This great principle is in every human being, both in him and in her.
Every masculine gender has a feminine element and just like every feminine gender has a masculine element.
If you want to understand the philosophy of Thought and Spiritual Creation, as well as of development and renewal, you must understand and study this Hermetic principle.
It contains the solution of many mysteries of Life.
We warn you: this principle is not a reference to wickedness, wickedness, and degrading lecherous theories, both educational and practical, told under imaginative titles and an abuse of the grand natural principle of Gender.
Such reviving wickedness of the old, ignominious forms of emasculation tend to destroy Body, Mind, and Soul — the Hermetic philosophy has always sounded the warning of these degrading teachings, which tend to lust, debauchery, and distortions of the Natural Principles.
If you seek such teachings, you must be elsewhere, Hermeticism holds nothing for you.
