If you are under tension for a long time, you get used to it and it becomes your normal position. Not only is it bad for your mood, but it also has a negative effect on your health. Your body makes too much cortisol. This stress hormone suppresses the immune system. This reduces your resistance and you can suffer from all kinds of ailments. To prevent this, it is necessary to reduce stress. But sometimes you don’t even realize that you are suffering from stress. Then you have become accustomed to it and there is a danger that you will continue despite all the signals.
Signs of stress
What are those signs of stress? It is important that you can recognize them. They differ per person and sometimes per situation. I’ll list a few:
1. Physical Signs
Headache, nausea, dizziness, blurred vision, gastrointestinal complaints, abdominal pain, back pain, tense shoulders, or fast heartbeat.
2. Mental Signs
Worrying, forgetting a lot, gloom, flow of (negative) thoughts, feeling of too much ‘must’ or concentration problems.
3. Emotional Signals
Easily irritated, angry, sad, mood swings, tense (reacting) or not having fun.
4. Behavioral Signals
Procrastination, avoiding social contacts, disinterest, taking care of yourself badly, smoking or drinking a lot or eating a lot or little.
Do you recognize them?
These are some signs that can indicate stress. It is useful if you can recognize ‘your’ signals. In time, so you can take a step back. Because then it’s time to relax. Then your body and mind need rest.
