The Beginning of Freedom According to Eckhart Tolle

The beginning of freedom is the realization that you, the thinker, have no control . With this in mind, you make it possible to observe the Thinker. When you begin to observe the Thinker, a higher level of consciousness is activated .

That’s when you start realizing that there is a vast field of intelligence outside of thinking, that thinking is just a minuscule aspect of intelligence. You also realize that all the things that really matter – beauty, love, creativity, joy, inner peace – arise from that area beyond the intellect. You begin to awaken.

If you no longer want to hurt yourself and others, if you no longer want to add more pain to the remnant of old hurts that still live in you, then don’t make any more time, or at least no more than you need to deal with the to deal with practical aspects of your life. How do you stop making time? Be aware that the present moment is all you ever have.

Make the Now the most important focus in your life. While you previously moved in time with brief visits to the Now, you now settle into the Now and make brief visits to the past or future when the practicalities of life demand it. Always say “Yes” to the moment.

What could be more futile, more meaningless, than to resist innerly against something that is already there? What could be more insane than to be against life itself, which is now and always now? Surrender to what is. Say “Yes” to life and see how life suddenly works for you instead of against you.

The present moment is sometimes unacceptable, annoying or awful. It is what it is. Notice how the mind labels this and how this process of describing, this constant judgmental way, causes pain and unhappiness.

By considering the mechanisms of the mind you are able to step out of these patterns of resistance and allow the Now to be. This will give you a taste of inner freedom from external conditions, the true inner peace. Just watch what happens and act if necessary or possible.

Accept and then take action. Whatever the Now brings, accept it as if it were your own choice. Always cooperate, never against. Make it your friend and ally, not your enemy. This will transform your whole life in a miraculous way.
