Twenty very interesting pieces of advice from people over 60

Opinions of people about 60.

When we think of the advice someone 60 and older can give us, the first thing that comes to mind is the interesting and life experience-based advice we might hear. I think the advice of older people can take many forms and frankly, I think some forms of advice are totally inapplicable to today’s world.

Just think, many people, sometimes even our parents, lived in a completely different world from what this world is like today. Is it really possible for these people to provide us with advice that is still true and applicable today?

Recently, a question was posted on Reddit asking 60-somethings visiting the platform to share their advice/tips for people half their age.

This is why I find these kinds of questions interesting: the answers contain experiences and characteristics of human life that seem almost timeless. I remember reporting a Harvard study ( Link ) on what it takes for people to be happy in this world, that many of the things that make for a happy life are usually quite simple. Many of these are listed below.

Twenty very interesting pieces of advice from people over 60
An important point that I always encourage people to remember (it’s also listed below) is that someone else’s advice or experience is not sacred and should not be treated and followed as such. We are all unique, we all have our own way to go and I think it is important to listen to this advice and experience, reflect on it and apply it in your life if and where it is right for you.

We are always evolving as humans and society and it is quite possible that one day some of this advice and experiences will really become a part of your natural state so that they don’t even need to be mentioned anymore.

As I see it, aligning your daily life with your greatest mission is very important if you want to create long-lasting happiness in your life. Don’t get lost in the illusion that there will be no more challenges in life, because those challenges will always be there and that’s part of why we’re here: to learn from and grow through our experiences. Do what you feel you want to contribute to the world.

Connect with the experiences you want to have, not with the experiences someone else tells you to have, such as cultural influences. Think about how you want to grow and learn. If you are discovering these things you will be in alignment with yourself, something that will bring you good luck.

1. The most important person in your life is the person who agreed to share their life with you. Treat him or her that way too.
2. You can live long or short, no one knows , but trust me when I say you’ll wish you had taken better care of yourself when you were younger.
3. Stuff is just stuff . Don’t cling to material things, instead cling to time and experience.
. Jealousy destroys relationships. Trust your partner because who else should you trust?
5. People always say, “Get a job doing what you love!” However, that’s not the best advice. The right job is a job that you love some days, can tolerate most days, and pay your bills. Hardly anyone has a job they enjoy every day.
6. If you are overwhelmed with life, go back to the present and enjoy everything that is beautiful and comforting . Take a deep breath and relax.
7. Years fly by before you know it . Don’t marry young. Live your life. Get out there. do things. Regardless of whether you have money or not. Grab a bag and go to a place that you can afford with your financial situation.
8. Don’t Take Life So Seriously .Even when things seem dark and hopeless, try to laugh at how absurd life can be at times.
9. A true friend comes by at 2am when you call that you need him. All others are acquaintances.
10. Kids grow up way too fast. Make the most of the time you spend with them.
11. No one dies wishing he had worked more in his life. Work hard but don’t put work above your family, friends or even yourself.
12. Eat and exercise as if you were a diabetic heart patient having a stroke . So that you never become one.
13. Maybe this advice isn’t as in-depth as the other advice but I think it’s important: floss regularly , dental problems are terrible.
14. Don’t see or treat the advice of others as sacred . You can ask advice from someone you respect, and then consider your own situation and make your own decision. In essence: take your own advice is my advice.
15. The joints you hurt today take revenge later . Even if you think you’ve made a full recovery. TRUST ME!
16. We are only on this earth once. Make sure you don’t wake up one day realizing you’re over 60 and haven’t done the things you dreamed of.
17. Appreciate the little things and be present in the moment † What do I mean? Well, it seems that younger people are all looking for instant gratification. Why not appreciate every little moment instead? We don’t stay forever on this beautiful, crazy planet and the most fun can be found in the simplest and most earthly activities. Call someone instead of texting them. Call your mom and talk about nothing in particular. Those are the moments to hold on to.
18. Pay your bills and stay out of debt . If I could pay myself the money I’ve had to pay in interest over the years, I’d already be retired.
19. If you dream of being or doing something that seems impossible, try to achieve it anyway. It will be easier to reach as you get older and become responsible for younger people.
20. When you meet someone for the first time, consider the fact that you know absolutely nothing about this person . You see race, gender, age, clothing. Forget it all. You don’t know anything. The biased assumptions that pop into your head because your brain likes to think in boxes limit your and other people’s lives.
