Wisdom of Louise Hay: These are your golden years (regardless of your age)

“You will one day belong to the elderly group, just like me, so it is time to look at life from a different angle. You don’t have to spend the last years of your life as your parents did. You and I can create a new way of life,” wrote Louise Hay in Power Book for Women. In this book, she wants to encourage women by sharing her life lessons. This article, she shares her vision of affirming and envisioning a golden future – no matter your age.

A golden future

Our quality of life does not automatically decrease with age. I see my life going in different directions and they are all equally good. Some things are even better now than in my youth. In my youth I was very anxious, nowadays I am full of confidence.

I truly believe that many of our fears are unfounded. We’ve been taught those fears, we’ve been programmed to think in terms of fear. It has become a thought pattern that we can change. Negative thinking is so common in older women and as a result, they remain dissatisfied for the rest of their lives.

I want to help you create a conscious ideal of your final stage of life so that you realize that it can be the most fulfilling period of your life. Know that your future is always bright no matter how old you are. Make your final years your golden years. You can become an excellent elder, someone who knows you can be a strong, active, and vital part of society, whatever your age.

Sit down and bring your attention inward. Think about all the times you were happy and let your body feel that joy. Think about all the times you were a winner, the times you did something you were proud of, no matter how small. Hold onto these feelings, that joy, and that confidence. Now, look ten years ahead.

What are you doing? Who are you? What do you look like? Can you still feel that joy? Now, look twenty years ahead. What do you see? Are you lively, alert, and interested in life? Are you surrounded by friends who love you? Do you do things that fulfill you? What is your contribution to life? Now is the time to visualize and create your future. Make her as healthy and beautiful and joyful as you can. It’s your life and you’re going to lead it.

Never believe that it is too late or that you are too old to dream and have goals. Dreaming and setting goals keeps us young and interested in life. Make the most of life and forget the past.

Wisdom of Louise Hay: These are your golden years (regardless of your age)

My life only became meaningful when I was in my mid-forties. When I was fifty, I started my publishing business on a modest scale. The first year I made forty-two euros profit. At fifty-five I entered the world of computers. I was afraid of it, but I took computer lessons and got over that fear. When I was sixty I got my first garden. At the same time, I signed up for a painting class for children and started painting.

Every year I get more creative and my life gets richer and fuller. I write, lecture, and teach. I am always reading and studying. I have a successful publishing house. I am a dedicated organic gardener and grow most of my own food. I like people and parties and have many good friends. I travel a lot and go to the painting class every week. My life has really become a treasure chest full of experiences.

You will one day belong to the elderly group, just like me, and so it is time to look at life from a different angle. You don’t have to spend the last years of your life like your parents did. You and I can create a new way of life. We can change the rules. As we face the future with our wealth of experience, only good lies ahead. We can know and affirm that everything that happens in our lives is for our greatest good and greatest happiness when we truly believe that it cannot go wrong.

Let’s learn how to contribute to life instead of ‘just’ getting old, giving up, and dying. We have the time, the knowledge, and the wisdom to go out into the world with love and strength.
