Your lifestyle compass for a healthy course

Sometimes you lose your course and lose sight of your own lifestyle, full of healthy habits and rituals that work so well for you. You suddenly find yourself in the city looking for ‘something’. You succumb to the convenience of a pizza and crave a bag of chips. At 3 pm you poop and you’re done with the day, but in the evening you’re zapping listlessly and you don’t want to go to bed. Your work, home, the schedule; your life went just as smoothly and the way you wanted! But now you feel unfulfilled, restless, dissatisfied, and overwhelmed.

Unrest

Recently I noticed that I had to find my direction again. An important project had ended and I had no clear idea for my next steps. Buying new cushion covers for the couch suddenly became my priority, but it did not give any valuable meaning to the restless feeling in my body.

The extra coffee with comfort cake only added more unrest and I felt the doubts and reproach bubbling up again…. Gosh, if lifestyle coaching is your job, you should always be healthy, happy and totally in balance with your ideal lifestyle??!It happens to you, me and all of us. Life is constantly in motion and you, as a living being, move along nicely. So far it is proof that you are alive. It only becomes interesting to see how you deal with it and what you do with it afterwards!

Losing your own course

We all have ideas or an image of how we want our daily lives to be. A kind of inner compass to which we align our decisions and give direction to our lifestyle. The better this compass is tailored to your needs, lifestyle and personal preferences, without the limitations of something or someone else, the easier it is to keep following this compass.

And yet sometimes, or often, you lose sight of the compass. You lose yourself in the hustle and bustle of your daily life or you are taken into the new lifestyle habits of a friend and you lose your own course. Or it all goes so well that you forget to look at your compass, causing you to fly out of pure enthusiasm! You then find yourself in a place, with a feeling or in a situation of which you thought, hoped!, that you were long past that. Perhaps you will then confront yourself. Do you blame yourself for failing again? Are you yelling that you can’t? Do you think you don’t know enough? Or that you didn’t try hard enough to maintain this way of life?

Perhaps you take the time and space to investigate what happened. Are you curious what caused you to stray from your own path? Is this still the right way to shape your lifestyle? How do you want to proceed now? What can help you with that? Do you blame yourself for failing again? Are you yelling that you can’t? Do you think you don’t know enough? Or that you didn’t try hard enough to maintain this way of life? Perhaps you take the time and space to investigate what happened. Are you curious what caused you to stray from your own path?

You can always choose

For years I chose the first option and went into full battle with what I did NOT want in my life. It gave me little more than frustration, despondency and ultimately a lot of sadness. In the meantime I have become a bit wiser because of these experiences. † ) I now take the time to stop, reflect and adjust before I fall into a kind of melodramatic mood. What do I want? What do I find important? How do I want to feel? And, what is needed for that?

These questions provide structure, help you regain insight into your lifestyle compass and bring you back to your own course. A mini mood board on your desk, in your agenda or as a screensaver on your computer ensures that you literally have your compass in view and remind you daily of the direction you want to go. Blame or love Resistance or acceptance Indecisive or decisive You can always choose. Can you feel the difference?
